Things to tell me before your massage:
When you arrive for your first massage, there will be a health history and massage consent form for you to complete.
It is important to know of any surgeries, injuries, and illnesses, as well as any medications you may be taking that may contraindicate massage. Please be sure to advise me of any contagious skin conditions (i.e. athlete's foot, poison oak), or any other contagious disease.
It will also be helpful to know:
-
where you feel you hold most of your stress/tension
-
any pain or limited range of motion you are experiencing
-
If there are parts of your body you wish me to exclude from the massage (i.e. face, abdominal area, chest area, buttocks, hands, feet, etc.)
Things you
may be concerned about:
My female clients seem to worry about not shaving, don't. You are more concerned about it than me.
Massage stimulates all the body's systems. Please do not worry about
stomach noises or flagellation, just focus on your breathing and forget
about it.
When you turn over, you might not be comfortable and need to adjust,
go ahead and adjust, it will not throw me off, even if I have started.
If at anytime you experience pain during the massage, it is essential
to let me know. Please do not think "no pain, no gain." Firm and deep
pressure should "hurt so good", but there should never be pain. Please
speak up as often as necessary.
I have some hearing loss, for which my hearing aid only helps so much.
If you are face down and tell me something, I might need you to repeat it
again.
Lastly, remember the massage is for you. Relax as deeply as you are
able, focus on your breath, and notice any sensations or changes in
your body. Connect body, mind, and spirit.
